Now that is a BIG and elaborate setup too far away from anything close to belief.

The reasons why I'm unable to digest the ending are:

1) He gets stuck inside a car that's drowning. What if he didn't get the idea to use the key? If I was his brother, I wouldn't take this chance. If my brother did this to me and if I survive, I will kick his ass.

2) He's drugged and thrown out somewhere in Mexico?

3) He jumps off and nothing happens?

Again, I have no problem with all of the above. But his brother setting it up just that he can be normal and enjoy his life like everyone else? That's where it turned me off. A better ending: he shoots his brother and jumps off from the roof top and they both die for playing dirty games. But even this ending sucks! I will not make this movie if I had the money, script, and talent to direct a movie.

The suspension of disbelief required for this movie was a little out of my threshold limit.

That's just my opinion. I also understand that you've to have the right mindset and watch the movie to enjoy it thoroughly. I did when I was watching Burn After Reading and some people didn't like it. But I couldn't get around this.

Hmmmm ... You say you would have hated it had it been a supernatural thriller and I am sure the movie would have sucked had the plot continued the way it did. I, for one, enjoyed the movie because of the way it ended. Just my 2 cents :-)
