Dev.D: A Review

My friend at work had recently bought a DVD of Dev.D (2009). Some of the other guys laughed at him for buying it. A similar thing happened to another friend on a different occasion before. That made me a little curious. So, I borrowed the DVD from my friend and gave it a try.

Surprise! I wasn't disappointed at all. Well, I wouldn't go that far to say I liked the movie, but it was worth the watch. Yes, there's more profanity than what the usual Hindi or other Indian regional movies have, but it's fine with me; I don't care. And, this is not the old Devdas we all knew. So, all the situations and dialogues in the movie went well with the script.

Hindi cinema is surely improving. I thoroughly enjoyed A Wednesday, and now, I enjoyed watching this one. It was a bit boring at times, but what can I expect from Devdas anyway! The other complaint I have is on the running time; it was shorter than most of the other Hindi movies, but it could have been 15 to 20 minutes shorter.

Verdict: I want to give it 4 stars but something's stopping me. I'm giving it 3 out of 5 stars with a full score of 6/10. Anurag Kashyap is someone to watch out for.
